Haematoid quartz - Chella, Valencia, Spain

Small haematoid quartz from the vicinity of the town of Chella in Spain, where a layer of Triassic gypsum outcrops, a typical environment for the crystallisation of this type of quartz. They are commonly known as ‘hyacinth’ or ‘St James’ quartz, as pilgrims can find them on their pilgrimage route in Spain.
