Haüyne – Taiarapu-Est, Tahiti, French Polynesia, France - Thumbnail N°184

This specimen features several haüyne crystals of a particularly intense cobalt-blue colour, embedded in their dark volcanic host rock (phonolite). The main, well-individualized crystal measures approximately 0.7 cm.
The haüyne shows a distinct orange fluorescence under long-wave UV light.

For information :

- Haüyne is a rare sodium aluminium silico-sulfate, generally found as small crystals in certain alkaline volcanic rocks. Well-individualized, strongly coloured crystals are particularly sought after by collectors. In Tahiti, haüyne is notably known from the Taiarapu-Est area, on the eastern coast of the Tahiti Iti peninsula.
