Rutile and Hematite - Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil

A floating specimen combining lamellar hematite crystals with acicular rutile crystals. The hematite, which ranges from black to metallic gray, has a vivid luster and well-defined crystals.

Numerous golden rutile crystals have grown epitaxially around the hematite crystals, giving the specimen a star-like structure. The rutile needles are fine, tightly clustered, and exhibit a strong luster, with a golden hue that contrasts with the metallic sheen of the hematite.

Highlights of this specimen:

- Epitaxial growth of rutile on hematite.
- Here, both the rutile and the hematite exhibit a beautiful luster (which is not always the case).
- The contrast between the luminous gold of the rutile and the metallic black of the hematite is striking.
