Calcite - Châteaupanne, Montjean-sur-Loire, Maine-et-Loire, France

Rhombohedron of calcite (probably obtained by cleavage) very translucent and brilliant, displaying a succession of bands more or less orange to colorless, giving it all its originality. A few small lateral bumps.

This piece comes from the Châteaupanne quarry, which delivered very beautiful calcites of different facies during the last 30 years, especially around 2000. This one is now absolutely forbidden of access.
