Pyrite and hematite - Valle Giove mine, Rio Marina, Elba island, Tuscany, Italy

An almost complete, intact and very bright dodecahedral pyrite crystal on a matrix of black lamellar hematite. The pyrite itself bears on the surface the scars of some hematite lamellae having crystallized at the same time. Piece resulting from a relatively recent (2013) and unique discovery, dedicated to finance the rehabilitation of the mining park of the island of Elba. This park can now be visited and the collection of samples is prohibited, except, a priori quickly, during supervised visits.
