Twin orthose – Ceilhes-et-Rocozels, Hérault, France

A specimen of orthose featuring two crystals twinned according to the Carlsbad law, with interpenetrating growth.

Both crystals are clearly visible, and their respective orientations allow the twin joint on each crystal to be clearly distinguished. The crystals exhibit relatively well-developed crystal faces.

The Carlsbad twinning is particularly characteristic of orthosite and is the main feature of interest in this specimen.

- Ceilhes-et-Rocozels, in the Hérault department, is a French locality known for its orthosite crystals, particularly for its Carlsbad twinning. Older mineralogical literature describes orthosite crystals from the vicinity of Ceilhes, some reaching several centimeters in size, and mentions frequently occurring Carlsbad twinning.
