Wulfenite - Helena mine, Crna, Mezica, Slovenia

This wulfenite from the Helena Mine in the Mežica mining district of Slovenia (formerly Yugoslavia) features a cluster of orange-hued crystals set against a light-colored matrix of massive calcite.

The crystals exhibit a particularly interesting morphology: their growth begins with a tabular base, upon which a pyramidal crystallization then develops, sometimes giving rise to characteristic bipyramidal forms.

The stacking and overlapping of crystals create a highly textured surface, with numerous fairly lustrous faces that catch the light.

The specimen thus offers a beautiful combination of color, luster, and diversity of crystalline forms, typical of wulfenites from this famous Slovenian locality.

- Remarkable crystal morphology, with tabular bases on which a second phase of pyramidal growth has developed, giving rise to the bipyramidal forms characteristic of Mežica wulfenites.
