Hydroxylapatite, hornblende and albite – Snarum, Modum, Norway

This specimen features hornblende and hydroxylapatite crystals on a matrix covered with albite.
Two hornblende crystals are clearly visible, including a long, dark crystal measuring approximately 3 cm. They are accompanied by a few white, opaque hydroxylapatite crystals, two of which are particularly well-developed. The albite covers the matrix and completes this association.

For your information:

- The specimen comes from Snarum, in the municipality of Modum, Norway, and more specifically from the Oksøyekollen quarry, a classic locality for hydroxylapatite. The deposit is particularly renowned for its hydroxylapatite crystals, often associated with albite and a dark amphibole.

Oksøyekollen is, in fact, regarded as a particularly important reference locality for hydroxylapatite, with remarkable specimens held in museum collections.
