Gypsum – Utrillas, Teruel, Aragon, Spain

A floating specimen featuring a double-terminated gypsum crystal, of a good size and particularly translucent and transparent. The crystal faces are well-developed and display a succession of growth features, which are particularly visible depending on the angle of the light.

The surrounding area forms part of the geological context of the region’s sedimentary formations, notably associated with former coal mining operations. Gypsum is well documented there, with occurrences notably at Cabezo de La Serna, in Utrillas.
