- Polyhedral agates were discovered in the 1970s in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. They formed through the complete or partial filling of polyhedral cavities, interpreted as the space between ancient, unidentified crystals—often assumed to be calcite (see *Le Règne Minéral* No. 163).
