- These quartz crystals come from the area around the town of Chella in Spain, where a layer of Triassic gypsum outcrops—a typical setting for the crystallization of this type of quartz. They are commonly called “hyacinth” or “Santiago de Compostela” quartz, as pilgrims can find them along the pilgrimage route in Spain.
