Dioptase after calcite - Tantara Mine, Katanga, DR Congo
An interesting double-sided specimen featuring a unique and aesthetically pleasing mineral association.
On the front, there is a superb perimorphosis of calcite into dioptase. The imprint of the calcite scalenohedron is perfectly preserved and clearly visible, offering a very graphic crystallization. The dioptase displays a magnificent intense green color and a beautiful luster.
On the reverse side, the specimen reveals a delicate association of small, colorless, brilliant quartz crystals accompanied by soft-hued plancheite spheres, creating a very aesthetic contrast with the dioptase.

For your information:
- The term “perimorphosis” refers to a crystallization phenomenon: A mineral that crystallizes on the faces of an existing mineral (here, dioptase in place of calcite) and retains the shape of the latter (visible imprint of the calcite scalenohedron).
