Polyhedral agate - Paraiba, Brazil
Polished slice of polyhedral agate.
Polyhedral agates were discovered in the 1970s in the state of Paraíba in Brazil. They were formed by the complete or partial filling of polyhedral cavities, interpreted as the space between ancient, undetermined crystals that are often assumed to be calcite (see Le Règne Minéral no. 163).
